One of the best places to eat dosa in Pune. Loni Masala Dosa, Cut Dosa, Sponge Dosa are the ones you can indulge into. Light on pocket as well.

Davangere dosa stalls is a common site all over the Pune. However Om Sai Dakshin Dosa – an humble cart in Chinchwad area stands out in the crowd. They are quite serious about it. Perhaps one of the best dosa in Pune. And we like that.

Davanegere Loni Masala Dosa :

Every evening here is full of fuss and enthusiasm. People keep shouting and screaming their orders, continuously checking if it is ready. And a gentleman on the other hand, silently notes them down (such is his patience🤔!!) and helps his team to translate it on a vast dosa pan. Most of it being the evergreen Loni (butter) Masala Dosa. As they spread the milky white batter on the fiercely hot pan  and generously add fresh butter on it my inner voice says “God bless you”… And that is what Davangere Dosa is all about. Each bite of it is buttery yumm. Even the chutney and Potato vegetable on the side are just magnificent and add more fun to it.

On the Accompaniments :

Point to be noted here that the potato vegetable, is not the same as what you would find in the authentic version of Davanegere Masala Dosa. The traditional version (found in Central Karnataka and Bangalore) is just a dollop of mashed potatoes similar to accompaniments in continental food. Here it is more customized to please typical Maharashtrian palate. Hence it is loaded with seasonings made of mustard, cumins, onions and clillies to add a spicy punch.

Coconut chutney is an integral part of any South Indian dish and should be available freely. The notes saying Extra Chutney and Sambar is chargeable are quite prevalent on the menu cards in Pune. I think they are pretty annoying and kill the fun of it. It’s not the case here though.

Other Varieties :

Other varieties of are equally good with Cut Dosa being my favourite. A spicier and more westernized version of Dosa. Cut Dosa is packed with the potato vegetable, chopped onions and tomatoes and bunch of spices. One can eat this roll with chutney as a dip for it. Hell lot tastier  than the usual dosas.

And it ain’t a costly affair so go and grab.
