Located just on the left as you start on JM Road towards Deccan, is a group of food carts. What makes it more noticeable is surrounding crew wearing saffron colored T-shirts with the name imprinted – Hindavi Swarajya. It can be roughly translated  to self-rule of Indian people. And it is closely tied with the quintessential Maharashtrian identity. Nevertheless, the food served on these bunch of carts in not only Maharashtrian but is a range of typical Indian snacks. Out of large variety of items they feed you, Sabudana Vada (Sago Vada) steals the show.

Deep fried in desi ghee (as they proclaim it) with mashed potatoes and peanuts added in between, Vadas here are one of the finest in the city. A mouthful of Sabudana Vada dipped in Raita, is a sheer delight to palate. On the side is Raita – a concoction of fresh yogurt, finely chopped cucumbers and onions. While the other side is Thecha – green chilies shallow fried and crushed with garlic. It is reasonably hot and goes well with the Sabudana Vada.

So if you are looking for authentic Maharasthrian delicacies such as Sabudana Vada or casual street food in Pune, head to this magnificent eatery. I am sure you won’t settle for one plate. Moreover it doesn’t  even burn a hole in your pocket ( provided cops don’t seize your vehicle – a no parking zone alert )
